Apart from what everyone else has said so far, most of which seems to be about this place being inside a castle, I don't have much to add. There are people who've been stuck here for years, as near as I can tell. You should be on your guard, though - there are large predators about who wouldn't think twice about turning you into a light snack.

Oh, and I dunno whether anyone's told you about Organization XIII yet, but try to avoid them. They like to hurt people.

I've not met any of its members in person, so I can't tell you much about them. Some of them are sadistic, others are just violent, and some even appear to be mostly harmless... but all of them have an agenda, and we're part of it.
