He wants to be whole, too. To heave a heart. He also has it in for his mentor. Xemnas, when he was an apprentice named Xehanort, wanted to take his master's experiments on the heart further than his master was willing to go, and felt held back. He continued the experiments, but also lost his heart in the process. Xemnas is his Nobody.

So basically what you're saying is they went too far, and now they're willing to do anything to get back what they lost.
