It has been awhile since we've last spoken, Paixao. I hope you will accept this gift to make up for my absence. Read closely, and think on this knowledge well.
To understand how the heart works, one must comprehend its balance and what happens when that balance is lost. How does it function with an abundance of darkness? Of Light?
How much until it is thrown over the edge, to a point of no return?
Each heart reacts differently - should they not all operate the same? How are we able to understand anything if our subjects are not on the same controlled level? I wonder, is it possible to reshape a person's heart, so that then we will be able to do our testing properly?
---
PROJECT F - EXPERIMENT NO. 1
SPECIMEN DESIGNATION: Laharl
PROCEDURE: Injections of darkness, followed by a single injection of pure light.
RESULTS: As a creature of darkness, the subject was able to accept large amounts of darkness, during which he began to take on the physical traits of a common Heartless (glowing eyes, visible and palpable aura of darkness). He reacted poorly to the injection of light, however, and rather forcefully escaped from the laboratory.
CONCLUSIONS: Like accepts like. Creature of darkness may not be able to handle light and vice-versa.
UNANSWERED QUESTIONS: Whether the light acted as a catalyst against darkness injected or against natural darkness.
POSSIBLE FUTURE EXPERIMENTS: Injections either entirely of light or darkness.
---
PROJECT E - EXPERIMENT NO. 6
SPECIMEN DESIGNATION: Zidane Tribal
PROCEDURE: Injections of darkness.
RESULTS: Subject entered injured and was revived with potion before injections, which may have affected results. Subject was completely unable to assimilate any darkness and instead gained powers not unlike those of the Heartless.
CONCLUSIONS: Creatures of light do not react well to darkness. Weaker hearts may not stand up to darkness well.
UNANSWERED QUESTIONS: To what extent the injury and potion affected results (if at all), Strength of subject's heart to begin with, Amount of darkness needed to make subject lose his heart completely.
POSSIBLE FUTURE EXPERIMENTS: Further injections of darkness.

The Organization is trying to harvest hearts to create Kingdom Hearts to try to regain their hearts. They're all Nobodies, people who don't have hearts.
no subject
... Sorry, this all sounds a bit fairy tale. How can they harvest hearts without killing? Or do they not care about that? For that matter, how can they lose their hearts without dying?
[Congrats, you got a long reply from Riku]
There's a difference between the organ pumping blood in your body and the... [Pause.] Y'know, I'm not sure how to say it.
A heart is kind of like a soul for your emotions. It's not your soul, but it's just as important. It contains the light and darkness in you. You remove a soul, you get a soul and a corpse. You remove a heart, and you get a Heartless and, possibly, a Nobody. [He sighs. he knows he should explain a bit more.]
When someone loses their heart, the body vanishes. The heart is overwhelmed by its own darkness, and the darkness essentially takes the place of a body. But since they were born from people losing their hearts, they were called "Heartless." The body might appear elsewhere if it doesn't just go into the Realm of Darkness. Because for a long time it was just theoretical, and shouldn't exist, it was called a "Nobody."
Yeah. The Heartless have hearts and the Nobodies are bodies. Just roll with it.
no subject
Oh, so it's the metaphorical heart which is stolen, not the actual heart. Sort of like the Cybermen, then, is it? But if they go missing, then why are they overwhelmed with darkness after? Why not light, or nothing at all?
Right. Got it. Completely lost.
no subject
...Cybermen? I've got no idea who those are.
I don't know. Darkness tends to be a more active force, but no more powerful, and light tends to dwell in the deepest depths of darkness. Though...
I was once called a hero from the Realm of Light. Maybe our normal bodies are the light equivalent. We just don't think of it that way because it's normal for us. But when that's lost, darkness takes over.

Long story short, they're people. Only they're not people. Only they sort of are and screaming.
Maybe. Bit like ghosts, or zombies. Only I don't actually believe in either of those, but never mind that. But if we're the light and the Heartless are the shadows, are the Nobodies, being sort of empty, the in-between?
no subject
...And screaming. ...I don't believe in those either, but with all the stuff I've seen, I'm not sure I'd be surprised.
Sort of. They've been described as "twilight," and "nothing." With no hearts to hold light and dark, they don't exist the same way we do, though they can use both. So they tend to associate themselves with neither. Maybe that's why they call themselves Nobodies too.
no subject
Yes. On the inside. You know, I'm not sure what to believe in anymore?
Right! Think I'm getting it now. Mind you, Jung would have a field day. But that sounds like a bad situation to be put in. Maybe there's a way to restore them without anyone else getting hurt. I know if it were me, I'd want my hearts back.
AAAAAND she IS home
...I've felt like that before.
...Who? [He pauses, and the rhythmic rustling could be him shaking his head.] I'm not so sure about that. Light and darkness can be very powerful, and Xemnas in particular is after power. Making him whole again would be bad news.
\o/
... I'm sorry.
Swiss psychologist? Liked to delve into the subconscious? He made fantastic waffles, but anyway, maybe it's more than that. Situations are rarely in black and white.
no subject
[Riku nods slightly.] No, they aren't. I used to think darkness was just bad news. It often is. [He looks down at his own hand.] Just depends on what's done with it.
